LONDON EVENTS
Wimbledon Grand Slam Tennis - 23rd June - 6th July 2008
The Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon is one of the most exciting tennis events in the world.
It's the third Grand Slam event played each year alongside the Australian, French and US Open.
Most countries have abandoned grass courts for clay and many players find playing on grass takes a little getting used to.
The event is held every year in south west London and lasts for two weeks, starting in late June and ending in July.
Many great players such as John McEnroe and Boris Becker have stamped their personalities on these famous courts and in the process given millions of fans hours of excellent entertainment. Of all the many fantastic women tennis players, Martina Navratilova was the 20 times Champion.
Buying tickets on the day...
If you can make it to this great event you won't be disappointed. You can often get tickets on the day but it does mean queueing for the night so take your sleeping bag with you. If you're unable to get a ticket, you can always watch the big matches on a giant television screen at the northern end of the grounds on an area of grass known as Henman Hill (after the UK tennis player Tim Henman). Click here for info on queueing at Wimbledon
