Wimbledon Tennis - Wimbledon Tennis Tournament 2010

Monday 21 June - Sunday 4 July 2010

Wow... this year's Wimbledon tennis just got off to an amazing start with defending champion Roger Federer playing Alejandro Falla. At 2 sets down Federer had the crowd behind him and with his grit and determination brought it back to 2 - 2 and then won 3 sets to 2.

The next day of the tournament was just as exciting with Rafael Nadal beating Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-2 6-4 6-4. Nadal was the 2008 champion and is back after misssing Wimbledon last year with knee injuries. What a fantastic Wimbledon tennis tournament this is going to be!

The sleepy town of Wimbledon is used to the passion and excitement from the thousands of fans that come here every year and it's definitely one of the most exciting tennis events in the world.

This is the third Grand Slam event played each year alongside the Australian, French and US Open.

The games are played out on grass courts and as most countries have abandoned grass courts for clay, many of the players find this takes a little getting used to. This annual event lasts for two weeks, starting in late June and ending in July.

Winners of the Mens Final in 2008 and 2009

In the 2009 Mens Final Federer beat Roddick and in 2008 Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer after an epic five-set battle between. Rafael Nadal (nickname Raffa) is the second Spaniard to win Wimbledon and in 2009, also became the first Spaniard to win the Australian Open.

Raffa was born in Manacor in Mallorca on June 3 1986 and has won six Grand Slam singles titles plus the 2008 Olympic gold medal in singles. if this this year's Wimbled tennis tournament is as exciting as last years was then we're in for a great time!

Other Great Players

Many great players such as John McEnroe and Boris Becker have stamped their personalities on these famous courts and in the process given millions of fans hours of excellent entertainment. Of all the many fantastic women tennis players, Martina Navratilova was the 20 times Champion.
