Wimbledon Tennis
...GRAND SLAM Wimbledon Championships
Wimbledon Tennis is once again going to bring thousands of fans to the sleepy town of
Wimbledon in South West London.
The passion and excitement generated by thousands of tennis fans makes this one of the most exciting sporting events of the year.
This is the third Grand Slam event played each year alongside the Australian, French and US Open and considered by many the most prestigious. It's also the oldest tennis tournament in the world.
The games are played out on grass courts and as most countries have abandoned grass courts for clay, many of the players find this takes a little getting used to. This annual event lasts for two weeks, starting in late June and ending in July.
Tennis Legends...
Players such as
John McEnroe and
Boris Becker have stamped their personalities on these famous courts and in the process given millions of fans hours of excellent entertainment.
Of all the many fantastic women tennis players, Martina Navratilova was the 20 times Wimbledon Champion.
Most recent winners are Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal (nickname Raffa) who was defeated in 2011 by Novak Djokovic and again in the US Open.
Buying Wimbledon Tickets
If you can make it to this great event you won't be disappointed.
You can often get tickets on the day but it does mean queueing for the night so take your sleeping bag with you.
If you're unable to get a ticket, you can always watch the big matches free on a giant television screen at the northern end of the grounds.
Ground Opening & Closing Times
Daily from 10.30am until one hour after close of play (no later than 10pm).
(Non-Ticket Holders will not be admitted after 8pm)
If you're not lucky enough to be here in June why not visit the museum which has a multi-dimensional tour of everything that makes this such a special event.
