Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree...Christmas in London
Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree and Carols dates back to World War II when the people of Norway gave the people of London a gift of a Norwegian Christmas Tree in appreciation of their help during the war.
Lighting the Christmas Tree1 December 2011 at 6.30pm This old tradition continutes with the Lord Mayor of Westminster and the Mayor of Oslo doing the honors on 1 December 2010 at 6.30pm. Carols are sung around the tree with the choir of nearby St Martin-in-the-Fields and various choir's will be singing Carols. The Christmas Tree lights remain turned on from noon until midnight every day until the Twelfth Night of Christmas.
Carols Around The TreeThis tradition has been carried on over the years and in the weeks leading up to Christmas many groups sing Carols under the tree. It's a truly magical experience which Londoners and tourists love. The choir from nearby St Martin-in-the-Fields will be there on the 2 December and on the following days many other choir's will join in to bring Christmas cheer to all. The last day to hear the Christmas Carols around the tree is on Thursday 22 December 2011, from 5pm to 9pm.
Café on the SquareOpen 7 days a week from 8am to 5pm and till 8pm throughout the Christmas period. It's located at the bottom of the central staircase and to the right as you face the National Gallery.
