Easter Traditions in England
There are so many things to do at Easter in London.
London Parks are full of daffodils and spring flowers and children eagerly await the Easter Egg Hunts and chocolate eggs which are given on Easter Sunday.
This four day religious festival is seen mainly as a time to relax and have fun and children and adults enjoy visiting museums, art galleries, going to the theatre or cinema and just having fun.
At this time of year, restaurants all over London can get very full, so it's a good idea to book well in advance.
Easter Traditions
Shrove Tuesday -
Pancake Day which this year falls on 8 March 2011, is the day before Ash Wednesday and the last day before Lent which ends on Easter Sunday.
Many people celebrate this day by making pancakes and having pancake races. Lent is a period of fasting, so before the period begins, many indulge in a tasty pancake or two!
Mothering Sunday - Mother's Day

Mothers Day in London and all across the UK always falls on the 4th Sunday of Lent and is exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday.
It has become a very popular festival and everyone celebrates by buying their monther a bunch of flowers, chocolates and going to restaurants and shows - Mother's Day Gifts - 3 April 2011g(17957074)a(1306992))
A very delicious almond cake called Simnel cake is a traditional cake originally made to mark Mothering Sunday and then carried over for Easter.
The cake has eleven balls of marzipan on top representing the eleven apostles, excluding Judas.
Throughout the Easter period Hot Cross Buns are eaten (buns with a cinnamon flavor white spicy cross on top).
The buns are very popular and often eaten during the year but especially on Good Friday and over the Easter period.
Although very easy to make, most people buy them from local bakeries and supermarkets in London and throughout the UK.

The Chocolate Festival returns to Southbank Centre in time for Easter. Dozens of stalls showcase truffles, bonbons and bars, as well... to Southbank Centre just in time to shop for all your Easter treats.

Easter Skate from 22nd – 25th April 2011
If you're looking for energetic things to do at Easter in London then this is for you!
The Easter Eggstravaganza is a themed family event taking place over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
The event kicks off on Good Friday with the Long Good Friday Night Skate - a 17 mile roll past London's most-loved visitor attractions.
Last year's events were attended by over 600 people of all ages, including international visitors and we are expecting more to join in this year.
Easter Parade
The Easter Parade at Battersea Park in London is still one of the most popular things to do at Easter in London. As with all Easter parades, many Easter Bonnets are worn by the ladies and everyone has a fun day.
Easter Church Services

There are many Easter Service in the center of town at
Westminster Abbey,
St. James Piccadilly and
St. Paul's Cathedral.
If you're close to Trafalgar Square the lovely St Martin in the Fields Church has recently had a major refurbishment and over Easter there are musical and choir events during holy week.
St Martin in the Fields Church Cafe is next door to the church and the restaurant is always full as the food is good and not too expensive.
