THAMES FESTIVAL

...BEST London Festivals

10 & 11 September 2011, 12–10pm, FREE

Thames Festival takes place on the banks of the River Thames between Tower Bridge and Westminster Bridge and on the nearby walkways and public open spaces of the area.

The Mayor's Festival was launched in 1997 and is now London's largest FREE OPEN-AIR ARTS FESTIVAL on the very trendy Southbank of London.

This year promises to be bigger than ever, with spectacular entertainment and amazing music from around the globe.

The National Theatre's Watch This Space Festival of free outdoor performances is in full swing over the Thames Festival weekend. Join us in Theatre Square for some amazing international entertainment.

Disco Shed

Sat 10 – Sun 11 September 2011 / 12noon - 10pm

Disco Shed DJs spin everything from soul to reggae, hip hop to house, and allotment-rockin' beats, then moan about getting splinters.

Full artist line-up to be confirmed - watch this space!

Festival Market

Sat 10 – Sun 11 September 2011 / 12noon - 10pm each day

Each area of the festival site will have food stalls, arts and crafts traders, and bars serving a variety of refreshments to sate your every need. Over 300 individual traders have been carefully selected from across the UK, with an emphasis on artisans with high quality products, and a clear policy on ethical sourcing for produce.

Festival Fireworks

Sun 11 September 2011 / 9.45pm - 10pm

Fired from 2 barges mid-river between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges. The display spans nearly half a kilometre of the river as the two barges fire synchronised volleys and strafes of aerial shells erupting into a dramatic canopy of effects.

Night Carnival

Sun 11 September 2011 / 7.15pm - 9.30pm

Victoria Embankment, travelling east, over Blackfriars Bridge and west along Upper Ground, finishing behind the National Theatre.

Tutatis’ giant horse constructions from Menorca, Joji Hirota's taiko from Japan and an outrageous Guggemusik brass ensemble will headline the Night Carnival’s 2,000 dancers, drummers, lantern-carriers & costumed masqueraders.

This year they are reversing the Carnival route to give a much better viewing space on the North bank of the river. The Carnival will line up on Upper Ground and set off at 7.30pm, parading North over Blackfriars Bridge, and then turning left onto Victoria Embankment where you will find ample space to see the floats in all their finery close-up.
