St Martin In The Fields Cafe In The Crypt
St Martin in the Fields Cafe is one of London's most popular places to go either for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.
You'll find this wonderful self-service Café at the corner of Trafalgar Square and Duncannon Street in the crypt of St Martin's 18th century church.
It may sound a bit creepy descending into the depths of a crypt to enjoy a tasty meal but this place is always packed.
It has a terrific atmosphere and the food is excellent and not too expensive.
The traditional full English breakfast is £5.95 and there's normally a choice of two bistro style dishes for lunch and always a vegetarian alternative.
Apple crumble or other such dishes in good sized portions make a tasty and filling desert.
Les Routiers Seal of Approval
The dishes are freshly cooked on the premises by St Martin's chefs who have Les Routiers seal of approval. Hot main course at £5.95-£7.50 includes three vegetables.
Main course salads £6.75 and house wine £2.95 per glass or £11.50 per bottle.
The Gallery holds world famous classical concerts which take place on Tuesdays and every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm and the Café offers superb pre or post-concert candle-lit meals.
Over the Christmas period there is mulled wine and hot mince pies and candle-lit Carol services and midnight mass.
Browse around the bookshop, buy souvenirs, look at the Art gallery and then have a pot of tea or coffee and soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful little crypt.
