Southwark Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral is just a few minutes from Borough Market, Tate Modern, The Clink, The Globe Theatre and all the pubs and attractions of this very trendy and popular area of London.


It's the oldest Gothic church in London and in the South Aisle there's a window and statue to commemorate William Shakespeare.

The Cathedral is also know as the Cathedral and Collegiate Church of St Saviour and St Mary Overie and is situated on Southbank just a few minutes from London Bridge.

The original church burnt down in 1212 and was rebuilt in the 13th century. The Cathedral has been used for many things including a prison, for housing, a bakery and as a pig sty.

New Exhibition - The exhibition consists of touch-screen computers, mini-cinema and 360 degree view from London Bridge over a 24 hour period. This is all part of a £10 million Millennium development which presents a Long View of London and Southwark - past and present.

The Refectory - Enjoy freshly prepared soups and a range of bread, sandwiches, hot dishes, main course salads, traditional puddings, coffee and teas, soft drinks and a small selection of wine and beers.

Opening times - Monday-Friday - 8.30am - 6.00pm/Saturday & Sunday - 10.00am - 6.00pm

Cathedral Shop - The Cathedral shop is normally open daily between 10.00am & 6.00pm (Mondays to Saturdays) and 12.00noon & 6.00pm (Sundays and Bank Holidays). Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday.
