The Southbank Centre consists of three iconic buildings - Royal Festival Hall which is at the heart of the complex.

The Queen Elizabeth Hall is the second largest concert hall on the site and as well as the main concert hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall also contains two smaller venues, the Purcell Room and The Front Room at the QEH.

The Hayward Gallery is the pulse of the visual arts of the centre. In addition to putting on major exhibitions and commissioning new artworks, the Hayward also organises projects, installations and talks across the site.


The centre is situated on Southbank next to the very popular London Eye. There are restaurants and bars and just a few minutes from the Centre are the National Theatre, Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.


FREE EVENTS


Things to do in London for free at the Southbank Centre are really good. They regularly host free events, performances and exhibitions across the site.


You can wind down at the end of the working week and enjoy live music on Friday evenings from leading musicians performing everything from jazz and blues to folk. Alternatively you can drop in for free lunchtime music in the Central Bar of the Royal Festival Hall on Fridays and Sundays - Free Events at Southbank Center

    The Chocolate Festival returns in time for Easter. Dozens of stalls showcase truffles, bonbons and bars, as well... to Southbank Centre just in time to shop for all your Easter treats.

  • Festival Riverside Level 1 - Chocolate Sculpting - Friday 26 March 2010 - Sunday 28 March 2010

    A chocolate-art display as part of the Easter Chocolate Festival, featuring sculptures made entirely from chocolate by master chocolatiers and pastry chefs.


    Where to Eat

    There are many places to eat in and around the centre such as EATs, Wagamama, Giraffe and many others. The Cafe in the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer sells coffee, sandwiches and cakes and Skylon offers a modern British menu and a range of cocktails and wines. The Riverside Terrace Café on Level 2 of the Royal Festival Hall and the restaurant Canteen offer all-day dining.

    Buses: Waterloo Bridge, York Road, Belvedere Road and Stamford Street.

    Tube: Waterloo (Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee and Waterloo & City lines) and Embankment (Circle and District lines)
