The Royal Albert Hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871 and today it's one of the most visited performing arts venues in the world.


At the moment the world famous Quebec theatre troup Cirque du Soleil, which was founded by Gilles Ste-Croix in the early 1980s, is appearing at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London.


With breathtaking energy, 'Totem' traces the fascinating journey of human evolution to the present day. The show runs until Thursday 17 February 2011.


As well as hosting the World's Greatest Classical Music Festival the Proms every year since 1941, the Hall also hosts rock concerts, ballet and opera.

Top entertainers from around the world who have performed here and captivated London audiences include Frank Sinatra.


Cafes, Restaurants & Bars

The Hall is open to daytime visitors for daily tours and the Cafè and restaurant are open. There are 13 bars and 3 restaurants open during performances and even if you're not attending a performance, the Cafè Consort is open to all.


If you have tickets for a Hall box, you can order food two days in advance so that when you arrive everything is ready. You can choose from champagne and sandwiches to a light supper. The Champagne Bar and Victoria Room Brasseries open 2 hours before the performance and other public bars open 45 minutes before peformances and during intervals.


PROMS

This world famous classical music festival is held at the hall every year and many queue overnight to be part of the Last Night of the Proms.


Proms in the Park concerts are also held in Hyde Park, however, if you prefer to watch on TV the BBC has full coverage on BBC2 and BBC1. You can also listen to the music for a couple of weeks after the event at BBC Proms
