Notting Hill is one of the most trendy London areas situated between Queensway and Holland Park (both on the central line) and
Portobello Road starts just a few yards from the tube station.
It's also close to Kensington Gardens and Kensington High Street and just a short bus or tube ride to all the shops and restaurants of Marble Arch and Knightsbridge.
The internationally famous Carnival is held throughout the nearby streets and over a million visitors arrive every year to celebrate this popular festival.
On the road leading down towards Portobello Road are many chich and very trendy antique shops. There are also many excellent pubs and restaurants such as All Bar One, Ziggy's and many independent French, Italian, and Spanish restaurants.
As well as being one of the popular London attractions, Portobello Road Market is also one of the most exciting places to go in London for a few hours on a Saturday morning or afternoon.
It's a great place to buy fresh fruit and veggies and there are many trendy restaurants and cafes and take-away shops where you can buy hot food.
If you're coming from the tube station you'll see the popular Prince Albert pub which has a small beer garden. Next door is the Gate Theatre and opposite WH Smiths is the Gate Cinema which show mainly independent and international films.
A little further on (past the Gate cinema) is the Coronet cinema which shows all the latest blockbuster films.
The Diana Cafè is full of photographs of Princess Diana and close to Kensington Gardens and Kensington Palace.
Another bonus of staying in this very trendy area is that you can visit the lovely Holland Park which is easily reached from here.
