London Transport - London Underground - London Buses

London Transport (London Regional Transport : 1984-2000) is responsible for the London public transport network in Greater London and includes London buses, London Underground (Tube), Dockland Light Railway (DLR), Overground and some National Rail.

Getting used to the transport system can take a little time but once you get used to it, you'll find it's surprisingly easy to get around town. A map of London is a definite must and a good street map such as the London A - Z is essential.

London Transport - OYSTER CARD

The cheapest way of getting around with London Public Transport is with an Oyster card because if you're using an Oyster card, you'll pay 50% less than if you buy a ticket in the normal way.

Oyster is an electronic smart-card which you can keep in your purse/wallet and just swipe over electronic readers which are installed on buses and tube gates.

You can 'pay as you go' or add a weekly or monthly travel card or bus pass. Register your Oyster card online and it's easy to renew or report a stolen card.

Visitor Oyster Cards can be purchased online before you arrive in London and they cost £12 and have £10 credit on them.

London Travel Cards

Another great way to get around London is with a London Travel Card. You don't have to wait in queues and it works out very much cheaper than paying every time you get on a bus or train.
