Highgate Village
North London
Highgate Village is a very fashionable and popular area of north London and one of the most sought after areas to live.
The very popular and lovely Hampstead Heath separates the 'village' from Hampstead and many famous people have lived here such as Oliver Cromwell, JB Priestley, Nell Gwyn and Dick Whittington.
More recent ihabitants have been George Michael, Annie Lennox, Sting and Academy Award-winning British actress Glenda Jackson, MP for the constituency of Hampstead and Highgate (London borough of Camden) since 1992.
The area is unique as you are only 10 - 15 minutes away from central London and yet surrounded by cobbled streets and beautiful Georgian cottages. The Village is only 500 meters from Kenwood House, second largest private residence after Buckingham Palace. It's also famous for its Victorian cemetery and well-known inhabitants including the following:
Revolutionary Philosopher Karl Marx
English novelist George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans, better known by her pen name George Eliot)
