Tips On Getting Around London
Getting around London can be difficult at first but once you get used to it you'll find it surprisingly easy.
A map of London is a definite must as you don't want to waste precious time getting lost. It's worth investing
in a good street map such as the London A - Z
The cheapest way to get around London by public transport is with an Oyster card. For example, if you're using an Oyster card you'll pay 50% less than if you buy a ticket in the normal way.
Oyster is an electronic smart-card which you can keep in your purse/wallet and just swipe over electronic readers which are installed on buses and tube gates.
You can 'pay as you go' or add a weekly or monthly travel card or bus pass. Register your Oyster card online and it's easy to renew or report a stolen card.
Visitor Oyster Cards can be purchased online before you arrive in London and they cost £12 and have £10 credit on them.
London Travel Cards
By far the easiest and quickest way to get around London is with a London Travel Card. You don't have to wait in queues and it works out very much cheaper than paying every time you get on a bus or train.
London Buses
London is famous
for the red double decker buses but unfortunately you can no longer jump on and off them like you used to. Unless you travel at rush hour, traveling by bus is one of the most enjoyable ways to travel around and you also get the most fantastic views of London.
London Underground (Tube)
The London Underground (known as the Tube) is another excellent way of
getting around London but do try to avoid rush hours as trains can get very packed. There are underground maps you can download and also an excellent journey planner.
London Taxis
All the information you need to know about using the famous black London taxis and minicabs.
London Pass
The London Sightseeing Pass is available with 1, 2, 3 or 6 days of validity and may be
purchased with or without an additional Travelcard option, giving inclusive transportation on London's Tube and bus networks.
