Der Nussknacker (The Nutcracker)
A fairy tale ballet in two acts by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, composed between 1891 and 1892 and based on Der Nußknacker und der Mausekönig (The Nutcracker and the Mouse King), a story by E. T. A. Hoffmann. An adaptation of the story was set to music by Tchaikovsky (after a libretto possibly written by Marius Petipa) and commissioned by the Imperial Theatre in 1891.
