Christmas Lights in London switch-on ceremonies are wonderfully glitzy events full of stars and celebrities which the people of London love. What would Christmas Shopping in London be without the lights to add that little bit of Christmas magic.

Tuesday 1st November 2011 at 5.00pm

For the 52nd year, Oxford Street will be full of thousands of people for the unveiling of Christmas in London's West End. Top London stores such as Marks & Spencer and 300 others have revealed that this year the iconic Oxford Street Xmas lights switch-on will be made by the Saturday's, one of Britain's most glamorous girl-groups.


This year Master of ceremonies Toby Anstis, official radio partner of Heart 106.2's, will kick off the event at 5pm by introducing The Saturday's. They will perform their new Christmas single, 'My Heart Takes Over' - out on 13 November. Supporting The Saturdays will be sister duo The Pierces and stars from the hot new musical, GHOST.

Christmas starts when the Christmas lights are switched on in Regent Street.


Amongst the many people to switch them on have bee Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott - popular London event which is celebrated in great style.

It's easy to find just off Regent Street down Fouberts Place behind the famous Liberty of London store. The Christmas lights and decorations this year will continue into Kingly Court.

Christmas Lights in London Bond Street Switch-On

Thursday 17th November 2011(private invitation only)

In 1994 Princess Diana turned on the lights and in latter years Sophie Dahl, Kelly Brook, Liz Hurley, Anna Friel and Lisa Snowdon have done but this year the event will be a private invitation event so not the free public Bond Noel celebration as usual.




Whiteleys and Bayswater BID Light Up Christmas

Thursday 17th November from 6.00pm - 7.30pm

This Christmas Whiteleys hosts a magical evening of lights, music and mince pies to celebrate the lighting of the 30 ft Christmas tree and welcome the start of the festive season.





Southbank Centre Festive Lights

From 20 November 2010 – 5 January 2011 you will be treated to the first open air ice rink on South Bank so will be able to enjoy the lights of London while you skate. The rooftop venue at the National Theatre will be opening in December for the first time with SnowGlobe (1 – 22 Dec) exclusively available for private parties in a Winter Wonderland.

10th November 2011 - Covent Garden Piazza 6.30pm - 7pm

Christmas this year will be as amazing as ever with red baubles and mirror balls, carol singing and the topiary reindeer.


The Xmas switch on for the Seven Dials Christmas lights will be on Thursday 1st December 2011 - Will update with further info closer to the time.




St Marylebone Christmas Lights Switch-on

Wednesday 16th November 2011 - Events start at 3.30pm - 6.30pm

St Marylebone Parish Church, Marylebone Road, NW1 5LT
Marylebone High Street will again be transformed into a winter wonderland with festive food stalls and mulled wine plus the opening of the annual Cabbages and Frocks Christmas Market on the same day.

Westfield Shopping Center Christmas Lights Switch-On

7 November 2011 at 5.00pm

Justin Bieber is doing the honors this year and will also be singing some of his hit singles including 'Mistletoe'. Westfield London will again be hosting its very own ice rink and Santas Grotto is where the kids can tell Santa what they wish for this year.




Hampstead Christmas Lights Switch On

27 November at 4.30pm

This year local star Michael McIntyre will do the honors of switching on the Xmas lights at 4.30pm. The Hampstead Christmas Festival will kick off at 11.00am with a free showing of Peter Pan (first come basis) and from midday there will be live music, street performers and fairground attractions. The event is supported by local businesses with proceeds going to St Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree Switch-on

1st December at 6.30pm

This old tradition continutes with the Lord Mayor of Westminster and the Mayor of Oslo doing the honors. Carols are sung around the tree with the choir of nearby St Martin-in-the-Fields and various choir's will be singing Carols. The Christmas Tree lights remain turned on from noon until midnight every day until the Twelfth Night of Christmas.
