British Museum

British Museum

Entrance to the British Museum is FREE but some events and special exhibitions do have an admission charge.

Not only is the museum one of the oldest museums in the world, it's also one of the largest! If you want to see everything it will definitely take you more than one day so leave yourself lots of time.

Elgin Marbles

There are so many treasures that you'll just want to see them all. The controversial Elgin Marbles which Lord Elgin brought from the Parthenon in Greece are still housed here.

The Egyptian Mummies, Greek and Roman Antiquities, Japanese Art, Medieval and Later Art, Oriental Antiquities, Pre-Historic and Romano-British Antiquities, Prints and Drawings and much more.

The British Library used to be here but in the 70s the big move to new purpose built premises began and in 1998 the new British Library (now located in St. Pancras), once again opened it's doors to the public.

Note: There are two entrances. The main entrance is in Great Russell Street and the other entrance is on the north side of the building in Montague Place.
